AUGER CAST PILES
Auger cast piles are structural members with lengths greater than their cross-
sections, with typical cross sections 12 to 16 inches in diameter. The hole for the
pile is augered to the desired depth and seated in a firm bearing stratum. The auger
cast pile usually derives its support from this end bearing but may also derive some
support from shaft friction. Pressure injected fluid concrete is poured inside the pile,
expanding its diameter and also compacting and consolidating weak soil zones. |
