AUGER CAST PILES

Auger cast piles are structural members with lengths greater than their cross- sections, with typical cross sections 12 to 16 inches in diameter. The hole for the pile is augered to the desired depth and seated in a firm bearing stratum. The auger cast pile usually derives its support from this end bearing but may also derive some support from shaft friction. Pressure injected fluid concrete is poured inside the pile, expanding its diameter and also compacting and consolidating weak soil zones.

GROUTED STONE COLUMNS

Grouted stone columns are structural members having lengths greater than their typical cross-sectional areas of 12 to 16 inches. The hole for the column is augered to the desired depth and seated in firm bearing stratum. Washed stone is added incrementally and grout is injected to form the column, which also compacts and consolidates weaker soil zones around the column. The grouted column generally derives its support from the firm bearing stratum.
